Trails are an amazing way to see our country, whether on foot, mountain bike, horseback, or other non-motorized means. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy is a nationwide project working to turn unused, damaged, and abandoned railways into paved or boardwalk-type trails. These trails either take the place of or run alongside the old train rails.

They develop healthier economies by promoting tourism and local businesses, and increasing property values. They support a healthier climate and environment by making active transportation a viable alternative to the automobile. Rail-trails create a healthier future for people of all ages and abilities, all across America.”
We have been on a couple of these trails, and they’re amazing. What’s best is the history isn’t lost in the process; if there was an historic event that took place at some point (e.g.: train accident) then a memorial or other form of marker is put in that location, so those who utilize the trails can also appreciate and remember it.
