LEGO Builds Fun and Education

Most of us have played with or purchased LEGOs at one time or another. From the Big Blocks to the DUPLO blocks to the very tiny LEGOs, they all help build imagination, spark creativity…and injure the occasional foot when they’re haphazardly stepped on.

LEGOs do more though. They’re playing a big role in education too. LEGO Education is their website where they provide activities and even curriculum for various grade levels, information about their educational toys (which include robots), resources focusing on using LEGO products for education, information about competitions (such as their FIRST leagues), and community news and forums.

We first learned about this side of LEGO when we were at the Otronicon this past Saturday. Many of the teen robotics enthusiasts got their start with LEGO Mindstorms. Mindstorms brings together computer science, technology, engineering, science, and math in one convenient LEGO platform.

More about LEGO Education and Mindstorms is available on their website, which we’ve also provided a link for on our site. Learning happens best when it’s fun, and LEGO has certainly found a way to make learning fun for all ages.

Crafts At Home and Online

While we’re not exactly crafty individuals here, we definitely understand the value of crafts and other make-your-own hobbies. Between feeding creativity, improving coordination, and helping with concentration, crafts are great for individuals and bringing families together.

We’ve found two websites that provide craft and artisan ideas and classes, and they’re very affordable. They’re Craftsy and Universal Class. These sites allow you to explore many different things to make yourself or take a class to learn how to.

Groupon provides deals for Craftsy every now and then, so make sure you check Groupon out if you’re interested in using Craftsy.

Universal Class actually provides more than 500 classes in many, many different subjects and fields. If crafts aren’t your cup of tea, there are many other options available, including cooking and even performing arts.

Our Make-Your-Own section in Idea Bandages also has several ideas for places to go to use and expand your creativity. Try something new. Sometimes something as simple as this can open you and your family to a whole new world and interest.

Have a wonderful weekend,
